NO SUDDEN MOVEMENTS and KEEP IT CLEAN
Probably the best advice to give your newbie driver when venturing out on winter roads for the first time.
Take it slow and NO SUDDEN MOVEMENTS meaning:
1 – Don’t “jerk” your wheel to over correct a “slide” or “skid”
2 – Don’t SLAM ON YOUR BRAKES.
3 – Keep your glass clean. Front AND rear. Road salt will accumulate on both and you can’t see what’s coming if they have a film of road salt spray on them.
4 – NEVER let them drive when they are upset. Take 10 extra minutes so they can calm down and avoid road rage and other erratic driving.
5 – PRACTICE Driving in snow and ice. There are several parking lots you can take your young driver to in order to practice on the snow and ice without causing damage to others property. The mall. Their school will often be “ok” with you using their parking lot after hours. Supermarket parking lot during off hours. Use common sense. It’s a good idea to ask permission but if you are cautious and careful there should not be a problem.
